Established in 1931, the APSB was the first Stud Book Society for the registration of ponies in Australia. Through the recording of their pedigrees and the registration of their progeny, the history of the home-bred and early imports of, Shetland, Hackney Pony, Connemara, New Forest, Welsh and Welsh Mountain, Dartmoor and Highland pony breeds is well documented in the early volumes of the Society's Stud Books.
The Australian pony evolved as a recognised breed with the
establishment of its own section within the Stud Book in 1931.
These breeds, along with the Fjord pony, come under the umbrella of the APSB Society.
Together, these breeds have established a genetic pool, which over the years has provided a foundation for pony societies to build on.
There are few pony breed societies and associations in Australia today whose success cannot be measured by the contribution of the APSB to their respective breed or type of pony.
The Society can be justifiably proud of sixty-eight years of ongoing
commitment to the registration and promotion of ponies in Australia.
